Defence Cuts and the Kaiju Threat

Trident Missile

Trident Missile

David Cameron has stated today that he is still in favour of the Trident missile program, but that they might need to think whether it is value for money.

The question of defense cuts seems to be moving up the political agenda. Practically every morning there seems to be a military figure, stressing the need to maintain defense spending in order to look after national security.

Now, it is generally accepted now that the western countries are almost invulnerable to military attack. The only real threat is terrorism. This si best combated by the security services, police and public vigilance.

What use are for instance the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers?

After listening to the top brass I have come to the conclusion that they are right, and that police action alone cannot protect the home islands against the threat of mass destruction.

Why? Well, the Tories have not factored in climate change and the fact that it could wake sleeping Kaiju which will then bring devastation in their wake.

Japan may have decades of experience of this, and Tokyo has been destroyed and rebuilt any number of times in the last few decades. We forget at our peril that the monster always attacks the city!

Mothra

An attack by Mothra on London using her poison dust could kill thousands. And of course Mothra has her  agents  in the form of the Little Beauties who spread pro-Mothra proganda for by singing “Mothra’s song.”

At least as Japan has show in the past it is possible to negotiate with Mothra as when she saw off Gigan who was bent on the destruction of humanity.

Japan is fortunate in that it has Godzilla to protect the nation.

What will we do in the future if we do not have any aircraft carriers to dispatch against Ghidorah, Gigan or Megalon?

Ghidorah

The new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers may cost £4 billion and the Trident program nearly £70 over the next twenty years, and Kaiju maybe the only threat that they are of use against, but to my mind it is a price worth paying!

Note

If you need to know more about the Kaiju threat you should watch the short film “Cinemassacre’s Top 10 Giant Movie Monsters”. It includes some of my favourites such as Gamera “a turtle with fangs, which shoots rockets out of its shell” and who has fought “countless other creatures too weird to describe”. Also featured are, amongst others, Reptilicus, the only Dansih Kaiju and of course Godzilla himself.
